Brison leaving parliament

Former Liberal cabinet minister Scott Brison says he will step down as an MP this weekend.

Brison says he’ll cease to be the representative for the Nova Scotia riding of Kings-Hants — which he’s represented for 22 years as both a Progressive Conservative and a Liberal — as of Feb. 10.

In a farewell speech in the House of Commons, Brison says he has enjoyed his time in federal politics.

He is telling his fellow MPs to never take for granted the honour of serving their constituents and changing their lives.

Brison resigned from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet in early January after deciding he won’t run for re-election this fall.

Brison said he was ready for a change and was looking forward to spending more time with his four-year-old twins.
