Tax hike motion tabled

Canada’s Conservatives have tabled a vote on future tax hikes by the Trudeau government.

The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued this statement on the Conservatives’ opposition day motion that will be tabled and debated today:

“More and more Canadians are beginning to realize that if Justin Trudeau is re-elected in October, their taxes will go up.

“His promise to balance the budget this year is in tatters and his deficits are out of control. His deficits today will become Canadians’ taxes tomorrow.

“This couldn’t come at a worse time for Canadians, many of whom are already falling behind and seeing their hopes and aspirations get further out of reach.

“That is why Conservatives have put forward a motion holding Justin Trudeau to account for breaking his promise to balance the budget and calling on him to rule out making Canadians pay for his deficits with higher taxes.

“Conservatives urge Canadians to call their MP and ask them to support this motion. They can no longer afford to pay for Justin Trudeau’s mistakes.”

Motion text:

“That given that the Prime Minister broke his promise to eliminate the deficit this year and that perpetual and growing deficits lead to massive tax increases, the House call on the Prime Minister to table a plan in Budget 2019 to eliminate the deficit quickly with a written commitment he will never raise taxes of any kind.”
