Residents in one Richmond neighbourhood are now able to borrow books from a vending machine-like dispenser.
Richmond Public Library (RPL) says they will be hosting an official launch event for their new book dispensing machine at Hamilton Community Centre on September 19.
Using a library card, the public can access the latest books for kids, teenagers, and adults seven days a week during the community centre’s operating hours.
Hamilton, the easternmost neighbourhood in Richmond, right next to the border with New Westminster’s Queensborough neighbourhood, does not have a physical library branch.
The book dispenser was funded by Richmond City Council and provides a cost-effective way of providing library access to the low-density neighbourhood and local elementary school, which is a part of the community centre complex.
According to RPL, the book dispensing machine is the first of its kind in British Columbia.
