$1.2B pipeline expansion

TC announces $1.2B pipeline expansion to Pacific Northwest

TC Energy announced on Friday a $1.2-billion combined expansion of its NOVA Gas Transmission and Foothills Systems in Alberta called the West Path Delivery Program.

The project will connect to GTN XPress, a US$350-million new U.S. project also announced on Friday by subsidiary TC PipeLines LP.

The Canadian portion of the expansion program consists of approximately 119 kilometres of pipeline and associated facilities, while the U.S. portion is an integrated reliability and expansion project on the GTN system, TC Energy said in its third quarter results on Friday.

Together the projects will enhance market access and reliability for growing Western Canadian natural gas production, and allow additional market penetration along GTN’s system in the Pacific Northwest, the company said.

The program is underpinned by approximately 258 million cubic feet per day of new firm service contracts with terms that exceed 30 years, it said.

Work in both Canada and the U.S. is subject to regulatory permitting.

The Canadian portion has staged in-service dates between Q4/2022 and Q4/2023, while GTN XPress is expected to be completed through a multi-phase construction process by November 2023.
