Canada Day long weekend is fast approaching and the Province’s roads and highways will be packed with travellers.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is asking travellers to please play safe this weekend and are encouraging safe driving on the road.
A spokesperson with the ministry is offering a few tips such as planning ahead and using extra caution.
- Allow additional time to get to your destination due to more people on the roads
- Pack food and bottled water for passengers, as well as pets, and planning breaks at rest areas
- Leave the phone alone and wear seatbelts
- Obey all posted speed limits and slowing down in bad weather
- Drive with extra caution, watch for motorcyclists, and sharing the road
- Make sure your vehicle is up for the drive by checking engine oil, washer fluid, lights and tires, including the spare.
Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist said the long weekend will start out cool and rain showers will persist through the beginning of the weekend.
“By the end of the weekend it looks like it will get sunny and warmer with highs in the mid to high 20s for Canada Day,” said Lundquist.
There is currently no ban on campfires in B.C. right now.
