The network is also working with The New York Times on a 5G journalism lab.
Verizon has announced at CES 2019 that it’s teaming up with Walt Disney Studios to bring emerging technologies, namely 5G, to media and entertainment. The partnership is designed to deliver the network’s 5G connectivity to every facet of the studio’s work, from production to personal consumer experiences. According to Variety, the deal between the two companies will give Disney’s StudioLab the ability to tap into Verizon’s next-gen wireless broadband, which offers data transferring speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second.
Diego Scotti, Verizon’s chief marketing officer, said this has the potential to “transform the future of filmmaking and entertainment.” In addition to teaming up with Disney, Verizon will partner with The New York Times to create a 5G journalism lab, though the full details of how that program will work exactly are still unclear. With Verizon making a huge push for 5G, don’t expect to Disney and The Times to be the only ones to look to it to bring next-gen connectivity into their operations. Chances are more of these types of partnerships will be announced in the months to come.
